Tricia Wright: The Naturalist

Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts

Curated by Catherine Walworth PhD., Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts.

Press Release

The Naturalist speaks softly and elegantly to the artist's spiritual bond with the natural world. It conveys the idea of time, quieting the mind, close looking, and the patience of small creatures and natural processes.

Wright worked intensively at Dieu Donné, the leading nonprofit cultural institution dedicated to hand papermaking processes in contemporary art. This exhibition presents a selection of unique objects made from cotton and abaca paper, peat turf, moss, fungi, lichen, and gold leaf. Embossed and gilded artworks were made using custom 3D forms Wright generated from her drawings, combining an ancient decorative process with current technologies.

AMFA has acquired The Naturalist, a large diptych by Wright, commissioned for this exhibition.
